Liar Liar
A pathological liar-lawyer finds his career turned upside down when he inexplicably cannot physically lie for 24 whole hours.
I had seen this one before, but it has been years since, so i gave it a rewatch!. Honestly it is a lot of fun and has tons of heart to it too via the family dynamic. I had fun watching it.
I loved the whole premise of the film. We follow Fletcher, a lawyer hoping to make partner. But the case he is on he must lie to win it, easy enough, but when his son after yet another letdown from his dad wishes for one day his dad can’t lie, things get hilarious.
It is Jim Carrey at his best, the insane energy he brings to his performances where you can’t imagine anyone else in the role after seeing him. But i loved that it balanced the comedic moments of which there are tons, with the more dramatic ones too making you go from happy to sad in a second!.
I liked that it showed the emotional element too as we see Fletcher’s son get excited and let down each time his father wouldn’t keep a promise. This is a huge part of the film and is a major reason we see Fletcher’s ex wife – Audrey angry at Fletcher and more determined to move on with her new fiance.
But the main thing you take away from a film like this is more the comedic moments. Fletcher’s hilarious outbursts as he tries to not lie in the courtroom were amazing as were iconic moments like ‘I’m kicking my own ass’ where he beats himself up in the bathroom!.
Standouts – Jim Carrey as Fletcher Reede is the heart of the film. We see the classic Jim Carrey comedy but with a lot of heart too.
Bottom line, a movie which perhaps isn’t as iconic as Jim’s other films. But is one that is always worth a watch and shows that he is an actor capable of more than just comedy.
